the Kría-Contest

The Kría-Contest is a pan-Icelandic competition in comic art storytelling. It is open to all children between the ages of 8 and 17 years and the winners will receive exciting prizes.

The contest begins on May 2nd (Free Comic Book Day) and ends at midnight on August 28th (International Comic Book Day).

Contestants have all summer to write, draw, color, and submit their comic.

A special committee of comic creators will critique the submitted works, and the winner will be announced later this year.

Details

The contest is split into two age categories: 8-12 year old contestants and 13-17 years old contestants.

The work can be in color or black-and-white. The work should be presented in standard A4-paper dimensions (21cm x 29,7cm) with 15mm margins. The work may be between 1 and 16 pages in length.

Contestants are permitted to form teams, i.e. one writer and one artist, two co-creators who alternate panels or pages, or any other combination that suits your workflow. If there is an age difference among team members, the work will be categorized by its youngest team member.

Contestants will submit digital copies of their work to islmyndsam (at) gmail (dot) com. The work should be saved as either .JPG or .PNG files and clearly labeled with the following format: [author name or names]_[page number]

For example, co-creators Guðrún and Wa Yu would submit their four-page story like this: GudrunWaYu_01.jpg, GudrunWaYu_02.jpg, GudrunWaYu_03.jpg, GudrunWaYu_04.jpg

Along with the submitted files, contestants should include full author names (team names are also encouraged), team members' kennitalas, Story title, phone number and e-mail address (so we may contact the winners directly).

Further questions can be submitted to islmynsam (at) gmail (dot) com.
